So you want to design some Free graphical objects, and turn them lose in the community. Wonderful. But what do you use to design them with? There are numerous packages out there for 2D, 3D and even 4D use - but which one is appropriate for your task? Not only for your personal use, but being an awesome person you're placing them in the hands of the community - so you'd better get your choice of tools and file formats right or people will find it hard to develop your objects further. Then there are some who want to turn your objects into real-world, solid artifacts - you'll want to cater for them. Even if they use Windows.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was some presentation you could go along to where someone could explain some of the more popular tools and techniques in simple terms? Someone who has already made most of the mistakes for you, someone who went through the Free stuff, weeded out the shovelware, and found out how groups of people create 3D objects for sharing in the real world.

Well, someone has done all this and survived, at least physically, intact. Come check out the free design utilities; lobbyists and hecklers welcome.
