PDF and Open Standards

Tue, 2010-01-19 (All day) This presentation will take a look at the history of PDF from proprietary specification of Adobe Systems to its current form as the open standard ISO 32000. The process that it went through and how this change impacts the free software community. In addition we will look at the various other ISO PDF standards - PDF/A (for archiving), PDF/X (for prepress), PDF/E (for engineering), PDF/UA (for universal accessibility) and PDF/VT (for variable and transactional printing).
The presentation will focus on both technical as well as procedural aspects of the various PDF standards.
LeonardRosentholLeonard serves as the PDF Standards Architect for Adobe Systems having been involved with PDF technology for more than 10 years. Leonard also serves as the ISO Project Editor for ISO 19005 (PDF/A) and 24517 (PDF/E). Prior to joining Adobe, Leonard worked as the Director of Software Development for Appligent, and the Chief Innovation Officer for Apago, while also running the successful consulting business of PDF Sages. Before becoming involved in PDF, Leonard was the Director of Advanced Technology for Aladdin Systems and responsible for the development of the StuffIt line of products.
