DESCRIPTION:In this technical talk\, I'll give a brief introduction to colour management\, \n how it works and why it's important\, and then describe what we've been doing \n in the Ghostscript project to improve our support for ICC profiles.\n \n There has been much attention recently on adding support ICC-based colour \n management to the free and open source graphics software stack. Formerly \n specialized to high-end publishing applications\, advances in computing power\, \n colour printing and the ubiquity of digital cameras are now bringing this \n technology to ordinary print graphics\, and it will eventually be important \n for the web and multimedia.\n \n Ghostscript has been an integral part of the printing toolchain in free \n operating systems since the days of black-and-white. We've had to do some \n extensive rework of the way we handle images and colour to bring our support \n up to the quality and performance levels our users need. Our new design \n features easy integration of different colour management systems\, \n buffer-at-a-time conversion using linked transforms indexed by object type \n and rendering intent\, communication of document and device ICC profiles \n between the interpreter and the rendering back-end. I'd like to describe the \n API we've developed to handle all that\, and discuss how we can work together \n to improve ICC support in the free software ecosystem.

DESCRIPTION:So you want to design some Free graphical objects\, and turn them lose in the \n community. Wonderful. But what do you use to design them with? There are \n numerous packages out there for 2D\, 3D and even 4D use - but which one is \n appropriate for your task? Not only for your personal use\, but being an \n awesome person you're placing them in the hands of the community - so you'd \n better get your choice of tools and file formats right or people will find it \n hard to develop your objects further. Then there are some who want to turn \n your objects into real-world\, solid artifacts - you'll want to cater for \n them. Even if they use Windows.\n \n Wouldn't it be nice if there was some presentation you could go along to \n where someone could explain some of the more popular tools and techniques in \n simple terms? Someone who has already made most of the mistakes for you\, \n someone who went through the Free stuff\, weeded out the shovelware\, and found \n out how groups of people create 3D objects for sharing in the real world.\n \n Well\, someone has done all this and survived\, at least physically\, intact. \n Come check out the free design utilities\; lobbyists and hecklers welcome.\n \n http://dev.www.reprap.org/pub/Main/DocumentationMain/Arduino_in_4D.odp [1]\n http://dev.www.reprap.org/pub/Main/DocumentationMain/Beyond_The_Pixel.odp [2]\n \n \n [1] http://dev.www.reprap.org/pub/Main/DocumentationMain/Arduino_in_4D.odp\n [2] http://dev.www.reprap.org/pub/Main/DocumentationMain/Beyond_The_Pixel.odp

DESCRIPTION:Yes\, we all suffer from overcommitment\, pledged allegiances\, and die-hard \n free associations in free software. We often forget to factor in basic bodily \n processes like eating\, sleeping\, and person hygiene. Instead\, we use our \n extra time to make fonts\, clipart and hack on free software! I'm the worst \n offender! This talk is directed at all the tasks I said I would do which I \n have partially done. I'm presenting these tasks as complete or handing-off \n the next steps to completion\, or sharing my power to other people to be free \n of the *OPEN* burden I've taken on. The notable projects I have committed to \n that I will declare my tasks in as complete are Inkscape\, Open Clip Art \n Library\, Open Font Library\, and the Create Project.
