Libre Graphics Day 2011 Original Proposal

The Libre Graphics Day (LGD) miniconf will provide the opportunity for the core linux.conf.au audience to interact with the users, artists and graphic designers that use design technology on a daily basis. Developers of different projects will be able to learn from and collaborate with other projects, while also gaining insight on some of the uses artistic end users discover. Users will have a chance to gain insight into the open source development process while at the same time giving them an opportunity to provide feedback and input directly to the developers of projects they might use.

Building on the success of the Libre Graphics Day (LGD) at LCA 2010, this miniconf will once again provide a sampling of the Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) experience to the libre graphics community of the southern hemisphere. The program of the first LGD featured talks on a range of projects and technologies, including: Scribus, SVG, Inkscape and Blender.

What is the Libre Graphics Meeting?

For five years, the Libre Graphics Meeting has been the premiere conference for developers, users and supporters of free software graphics applications. Developers from projects such as the GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, Krita, Scribus, Hugin, the Open Clipart Library, and the Open Font Library gather to work on interoperability, shared standards, and new ideas. Work at prior LGMs has pushed the state of the art in important areas such as color management, cross-application sharing of brushes and other assets, and common formats.
