Hello Scribus!
Scribus is an Open Source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/UNIX, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp 4/eComStation and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, Spot Colors, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation.
Jon will give an intro to the scribus project, what it is, what it does, who it's for, and demo some of it's key features.
Graphic Design Apps - Beyond The Pixel
So you want to design some Free graphical objects, and turn them lose in the community. Wonderful. But what do you use to design them with? There are numerous packages out there for 2D, 3D and even 4D use - but which one is appropriate for your task? Not only for your personal use, but being an awesome person you're placing them in the hands of the community - so you'd better get your choice of tools and file formats right or people will find it hard to develop your objects further.
Cairo Graphics - Intro and Future thoughts
Carl Worth is the lead developer of the Cairo graphics library. He will talk about the relationship between graphics and drivers, getting rid of X a piece at a time, and gaze a little into what the future looks like...
Cairo is a 2D graphics library with support for multiple output devices. Currently supported output targets include the X Window System, Quartz, Win32, image buffers, PostScript, PDF, and SVG file output.
This is an introductory session for those wanting to know more about how graphics really works on linux.

How to Use FOSS Graphics Tools to Pay for College
No matter what manner of higher learning institution one might apply for, that education represents a significant monetary investment. In this talk, Elizabeth will explain how you can go about helping to pay your way through school using completely open source software. She will describe how becoming involved in the open source community has helped ready her for a college environment, the scholarships she is currently applying for, and how she is tackling each one with a different set of entirely free software graphics applications.
Dynamic PDF reports via XSL and Inkscape
Based on an article in Linux Journal some years ago, I've been using XSL and PHP to transform Inkscape XML into PDFs using dynamic data generated on the fly on a webserver - this lightning talk explains the process.
